Teething Troubles? Here’s How to Soothe Your Baby
Teething. It’s one of those stages that sneaks up on you—one day, they’re all smiles, and the next, you’re greeted by drool, flushed cheeks, chewing, and tears.
When those tiny teeth start pushing through, it can be uncomfortable for baby and stressful for you. Wow do I remember those times when mine were little! And I'm kinda grateful, because without those times, there'd have been NO Gummee ;)
Anyway, I’ve rounded up some top tips to help ease the discomfort and bring those gorgeous smiles back.
Spotting the Signs of Teething
Teething can show up in little ways before you realise what's happening. Some early signs to look for? Drooling (lots of it, bibs and clothes will get soaked!), a newfound obsession with chewing on everything and possibly putting their hands in their mouth, swollen gums, and even some crankiness. Some babies might even struggle to sleep or be fussy with their food. If any of this sounds familiar, it might be those pesky teeth coming in!
Go-To Teething Solutions That Work
Every baby is unique, and what works for one might not for another, but here are a few tried-and-true methods that can help:
-
Teething Mittens: Not all little ones have the grip to hold a teething toy if they start teething really young. That’s where the Gummee Glove comes in—it’s perfect for younger babies who want relief but aren’t quite able to grasp a traditional teether. Pop it on, and they’re ready to chew away! The glove comes with a detachable teething ring too, so it is a teether that will last throughout the entire teething journey.
-
Cool Compresses: A cold, damp cloth or a chilled (not frozen, this can cause freezer burn on baby's delicate gums) teething toy can feel amazing on sore gums. Just make sure whatever they’re chewing on is BPA-free and safe for those tiny hands and mouths.
-
Teething Gels & Granules: Some parents swear by teething granules or natural gels to offer a bit of extra comfort. Just be sure to choose baby-safe options like Ashton & Parsons’ granules, especially designed for soothing relief. Check with a pharmacist or speak to a health professional.
-
Distraction Therapy: When in doubt, a few extra cuddles or a fun, engaging activity can sometimes do wonders to shift their focus away from the discomfort—even if just for a moment. I know that taking my babies out for a walk in the push chair seemed to soothe all ailments, the fresh air and movement is like magic!
Why the Gummee Glove is a Teething Game-Changer
Here’s a little secret: not all teethers are made equal. That’s why I created the Gummee Glove. Specifically designed for babies who aren't quite able to hold onto a teether yet, the Gummee Glove is wearable, which makes it super easy for them to find their own relief without dropping anything (and saves you from constant retrieval duty!). Made from soft fabric which absorbs your baby's drool, with a safe silicone teething section, it’s ideal for little gums. Plus, it even comes with a detachable teething ring for when they’re ready to hold it on their own.
Teething can be tough on everyone involved, but with the right tools and a little bit of patience, you’ll make it through with a few more smiles and hopefully, fewer tears.
